We often talk with our friends about an array of topics on a daily basis. Whether discussing ways on how to be successful, relationships with other people, the rigors and stress of school to the long hours at work or simply staying motivated to get up every morning and be a positive impact in society, we sometimes lose sight of a very important piece to the puzzle of life.

Family. Desmond Tutu once said, ” you don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.” As we know, any gift granted to us can be taken away if not used properly acknowledged, appreciated or cared for.

Sometimes, we put so much trust in our friendships and relationships with others that we forget about the people who have helped us from day one, picked us up off the floor in times of desolation, cared for us when no one else cared and talked to us when we needed to hear a second opinion on an issue to name only a small portion of examples.

To sum this up, working and striving towards success does not come easy. Some friendships and relationships you have with some are not meant to be life long but only for a season. Seasonal friendships, they are not bad. They are just like the seasons, they constantly change and bring different inner feelings, sensations and different thoughts that bring about the their true character of our so-called friends to reality. However, you embrace the time and experiences you have with people.

Family. It is not perfect. As a matter of fact, I am not sure if I could name anyone who has a perfect family or a perfect set of family members. Family is more than just a group of people who pray together at the dinner table when its time to eat, go to church together and sit on the same row or argue about things that seem so big when in actuality, they are probably small.

Family. It is a bond like no other, different from any bond that could ever be put together by man. There are many bonds of friendship through brotherhood and sisterhood in fraternities and sororities but the bond of family, it is special.

Never forget about your family. They will always be there when no else will.

In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future. ~Alex Haley
