There are many times in life where things get difficult, demanding, and tedious. It gets to a point where you feel as if you are scratching at the bottom of the floor, kicking, pushing and striving to get up. It’s hard! Within this process, there are the “others” who aim to keep you down, tell you what you cannot do, question why you do what you do, why you will not succumb to normalcy of society or they simply do not understand your inner ambition and drive to be successful. It’s hard!

You see, SUCCESS, is not easy. It does not come overnight, despite how bad we may want it to. SUCCESS is difficult and trivial, filled with harsh words, hard times, and all types of curve balls thrown at you, filled with obstacles to deter you from your dreams and your passion in life. Langston Hughes once said, “ Hold fast to dreams.” WHY? Why might would he have said such powerful words? He knew he would face numerous hardships and difficulties to get to where he wanted to be. He knew he had to DREAM, to HUSTLE, to ENDURE and to PERSEVERE. Maya Angelou said it best “ Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” Fulfilling your dreams and passions is a journey, a very long one. Time is an inevitable factor that plays a major role as to when and how fast you achieve the dreams you set out for. Nevertheless, one thing is for sure, you must chose wisely how you spend your time to adequately reach your dreams. Benjamin Elijah Mays once said, “Life is just a minute—only sixty seconds in it, forced upon you—cant refuse it…just a tiny little minute, but eternity is in it.”

For every minute someone discourages, questions or puts you down physically and mentally, think about what you can do in a MINUTE to be more successful. The future starts now, at this very SECOND. Whatever your goal or passion is in life, go forward with it wholeheartedly. Never give up! Dr. Martin Luther King stated, “ If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”

Just like any other person, I was told what I could not do, what I would not be able to do and where I would not go in life. Not to mention, there are a million more times of which I will hear this in my life just like many of you. However, you do not fold at the hills of ADVERSITY, you push through them. Sometimes you may walk alone on the mountain, but someone will eventually be there to see you through, and if not, continue to be YOU. Follow your dreams and set high goals for yourself. Benjamin Franklin said, “ If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”

There is always one thing to remember throughout this entire process: remaining humble. Camille Pissaro once said, “Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing.” Thus, through it all, Zig Ziglar said it best “It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.”

It’s hard but never give up! Thus, you will fulfill your DREAMS and see them through!
